WHY IS BUYSELL GOING VINTAGE-ONLY?

As true lovers of vintage, we’ve decided to go all in on vintage apparel to create a better experience for both buyers and sellers. Most resale platforms mix true vintage with modern reproductions and mass-produced items, making it harder to discover authentic pieces and connect with the right audience. By focusing exclusively on vintage, we can build better tools for discovery, improve listing quality and consistency, and create a marketplace designed specifically for vintage culture and collectors. Our goal is to make BUYSELL the trusted destination built by vintage lovers, for vintage lovers.

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER TO BUY & SELL ON BUYSELL?

Yes. To make a purchase on BUYSELL, you must create an account by providing your first name, last name, email address, and verifying your phone number.

To list items for sale, you will also need to provide your payout details and complete identity verification through our payment processor, Stripe. This helps keep the marketplace secure for both buyers and sellers. For more details visit our How to Buy and Sell page.

WHAT CAN I SELL?

Our vintage-only marketplace is focused on true vintage apparel. To qualify for sale on BUYSELL, all items must be at least 20 years old. We currently allow clothing items that are culturally relevant, vintage pieces representative of the era they were made in. How to Buy & Sell

SELLING FEES

After your item sells, we will deduct a 10% commission + 2.9% + $0.50 credit card processing fee on the final selling price of your item.

HOW DO I GET PAID?

After the buyer receives and accepts their item — or after three days have passed following delivery confirmation — your earnings will be automatically deposited into the payout account you provided when registering as a seller.

Your payout amount is calculated as the final sale price minus the 10% BUYSELL commission and a payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.50 per transaction. Once released, payouts typically take 1–3 business days to appear in your account, depending on your banking institution.

SELLER PROTECTION

BUYSELL helps protect sellers against fraudulent transactions and unauthorized chargebacks that may occur during the course of a completed sale. If a buyer attempts to reverse payment after successfully receiving an item, BUYSELL will work with the payment processor to dispute the claim on the seller’s behalf.

To qualify for seller protection, sellers must follow all BUYSELL policies and complete the entire transaction through the BUYSELL platform, including payment, messaging, and shipping. Sellers must also provide valid tracking information and ship the item to the address provided in the order confirmation. Transactions conducted partially or entirely outside of BUYSELL are not eligible for seller protection.

SELLER TAX INFORMATION / FORM 1099-K

Under U.S. tax regulations, BUYSELL may be required to provide eligible sellers with a Form 1099-K for reportable sales activity on the platform. As part of seller registration and identity verification, BUYSELL collects taxpayer information upfront through our payment processor, Stripe. This may include your legal name, address, date of birth, and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), such as your Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN).

It is important that the information provided in your BUYSELL account matches your official IRS tax records and annual tax return. In some cases, payouts may be delayed or restricted until the required information has been submitted and verified.

Please note that Form 1099-K reporting is based on gross sales totals and may not reflect deductions such as refunds, fees, or the original purchase price of items sold. We recommend consulting a qualified tax professional regarding your specific tax obligations.

SHIPPING

Buyers are responsible for paying the cost of shipping the items they order. Shipping costs are calculated based on the weight of the entire package and the distance it will travel. BUYSELL does not charge any extra fees for shipping. We pass our discounted commercial rates directly to the buyer. All packages ship via USPS Ground Advantage.

Sellers are required to enter the total weight of their shipment (item + packaging) when listing an item for sale. Package dimensions are optional when listing through the mobile app, but are required on mobile web and desktop.

Please note that sellers are responsible for any additional shipping charges resulting from overweight or oversized packages. An overweight package means the actual shipment weighs more than the weight entered in the listing. Any added carrier fees will be deducted from your earnings and may result in selling restrictions or account limitations. HOW DO I PACKAGE MY ITEM?

As a seller, you can choose the packaging that works best for your item. Many items can be safely shipped in a lightweight polyethylene mailer, which adds little to no extra weight. For more fragile or structured items, we recommend using a lightweight shipping box for added protection.

When shipping with a box, we suggest using the smallest box that comfortably fits your item to help avoid unnecessary shipping costs. A great, eco-friendly option is to reuse packaging materials from items you’ve previously received in the mail. You can also purchase shipping supplies directly from USPS or other third-party shipping supply vendors.

BUYER PROTECTION

BUYSELL helps ensure that buyers receive the item they purchased in the condition described in the listing. If an eligible issue arises, BUYSELL will work with both the buyer and seller to help resolve the transaction fairly.

Buyers may qualify for a refund if an item never ships, arrives significantly different from the listing description, arrives damaged due to undisclosed flaws, or if the incorrect item is received. Claims related to counterfeit items or non-vintage items sold as vintage may also qualify for protection.

To remain eligible for Buyer Protection, all communication, payments, and transactions must take place entirely through the BUYSELL platform. Buyers should carefully review all photos, measurements, descriptions, and condition details before purchasing, as most vintage items are pre-owned and may show normal signs of age and wear.

Please note that Buyer Protection does not cover fit issues, personal preference, buyer’s remorse, delayed delivery caused by carriers, or minor wear that was clearly shown or described in the listing. All sales are otherwise considered final.

WHAT IS THE RETURN / REFUND POLICY?

BUYSELL will provide a full refund if an item never ships. If an item arrives significantly different from the listing description, you also may qualify for a refund and/or return. Otherwise, all sales are considered final. Please note that any trades or transactions completed outside of the BUYSELL platform are not protected under our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy and are not eligible for returns, refunds, or buyer protection.

Examples of what may qualify for a refund and/or return:

  • Undisclosed damage or major flaws
  • Incorrect item received
  • Missing item(s) from an order
  • Item significantly not as described in the listing
  • Counterfeit or non-vintage item listed as vintage

Examples of what does not qualify for a refund and/or return:

  • Item does not fit
  • Item is not your personal style or preference
  • You changed your mind after purchasing
  • Minor signs of wear consistent with vintage items and disclosed condition

HOW DO I REQUEST A REFUND?

You will have 3 days from the date of delivery confirmation to Accept or Dispute your order. To request a refund, simply select Dispute and follow the prompts. *If no claim is made within 3 days of delivery, all sales are considered final and no refunds will be provided.

CANCELLATIONS

BUYERS: All orders are considered final unless the seller fails to ship the item within seven days of purchase. After this period, buyers may request to cancel the order and receive a full refund. Once an order has been shipped, it cannot be canceled.

To cancel an eligible order:

  1. Go to the Account tab
  2. Select Buying and locate your order
  3. Click on the order you would like to cancel
  4. Select Cancel Order
  5. Submit your cancellation request

Approved refunds are typically returned to the original form of payment within 3–5 business days, depending on your financial institution.

SELLERS: May cancel an order at any time within 30 days, as long as the order has not yet been shipped. Please note that buyers are eligible to cancel orders that have not shipped after 7 days. If you anticipate needing more than 7 days to ship, we recommend contacting the buyer through the BUYSELL platform to let them know additional time is needed so they do not cancel the order.

To cancel an order:

  1. Go to the Account tab
  2. Select Selling and locate your sale under the In Progress tab
  3. Click on the order you would like to cancel
  4. Select Cancel Order
  5. Choose a reason for cancellation from the dropdown menu
  6. Submit your cancellation request

MY SHIPMENT NEVER ARRIVED, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

As a first step, we recommend tracking your package directly through USPS using the tracking number provided with your order.

If your package appears to be lost in transit or was never delivered, please Contact Us or at (212) 814-7996 so we can assist you with the next steps and help determine whether you qualify for a refund.

If USPS tracking shows the package as delivered but you cannot locate it, we recommend contacting USPS to request proof of delivery and checking with household members, neighbors, mailrooms, or building management.

If you are still unable to locate your package after USPS confirms delivery, you will need to file a lost or stolen package claim directly with USPS at Find Missing Mail.

BLOCKING USERS

Users can be blocked from interacting with you. Once a user is blocked, they will not be able to Message, Like, Make an Offer, or Purchase any of your listings.

To block a user:

  1. Go to the user's store
  2. At the top of the page, select the Action Menu (...).
  3. Select Block User.

ZERO-TOLERANCE FRAUD POLICY

BUYSELL has a zero-tolerance policy toward fraud, counterfeit goods, and deceptive activity of any kind. To help keep the marketplace safe for buyers and sellers, the BUYSELL team actively monitors listings, transactions, and user activity for behavior that may violate our Terms of Service.

Listings suspected of being counterfeit, misleading, stolen, inaccurate, or otherwise in violation of our policies may be removed at the sole discretion of the BUYSELL team. Users who engage in fraudulent behavior — including posting counterfeit items, listing items they do not own, manipulating transactions, or attempting to scam buyers or sellers — may face account limitations, suspension, or permanent removal from the platform.

While BUYSELL is focused exclusively on vintage apparel and works to encourage accurate listings and trustworthy marketplace behavior, we do not authenticate items or offer a formal authentication service. Buyers and sellers should use good judgment, carefully review listings, and communicate through the BUYSELL platform whenever questions arise.
